Exceptional Demand in All Regions for ChargePoint Network Public Electric Vehicles Charging Stations and Services; Home Stations Still Available for EV Drivers
Campbell, Calif., April 10, 2012 Coulomb Technologies today announced the completion of more than 2400 shipments of its public and commercial charging stations for electric vehicles through its ChargePoint® America program. Coulomb has seen exceptional demand in all 10 regions of the program and is finalizing the installation of charging stations within these regions. The ChargePoint America program is made possible by a $15M matching grant funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the Department of Energy.
“The ChargePoint America program has helped make San Francisco EV-ready,” said Melanie Nutter, Director of San Francisco Department of the Environment. “We are investing in the innovation and infrastructure that will make us the EV capitol of the US and help secure our sustainable future.”
“In June 2010, ChargePoint America kicked off its national campaign in Orlando – which has been at the forefront of electric vehicles,” said OUC Vice President of Sustainable Services Byron Knibbs. “For 89 years, OUC has been evolving to fit the needs of its customers and this strategic partnership with Coulomb ensures the necessary infrastructure is in place to continue to do so well into the future.”
Coulomb’s ChargePoint America program provides approximately 4500 charging stations to program participants in ten regions in the United States: Austin/San Antonio, Texas, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando/Tampa, Sacramento, Calif., San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Redmond/Bellevue, Wash., Washington DC/Baltimore, Southern Michigan (including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Detroit). The program is a strategic partnership between Coulomb and six leading automobile brands: Ford, Chevrolet, smart USA, BMW, Nissan and Fisker Automotive.
Any purchaser of a program electric vehicle (Chevrolet Volt, Ford Transit Connect Navistar eStar® Electric Truck, Ford Focus Electric, BMW ActiveE, Nissan LEAF™, smart fortwo electric drive or Fisker Karma), whose home is located within one of the ten target regions, may be eligible to receive a home charging station at no cost. Similar to the commercial and public stations, the residential charge stations are connected to the ChargePoint Network and data is being collected to understand the infrastructure utilization. “We are proud of our accomplishments and progress of the ChargePoint America program,” said Pat Romano, president and CEO at Coulomb Technologies. “We are further laying the groundwork to reduce our dependency on foreign oil in our nation. You can see the results of our grant every day in the US where these charging stations are installed. EVs are good for the automobile industry, good for consumers and good for the economy.”
About ChargePoint America
The $37 million ChargePoint America program is made possible in part by a $15M grant funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the Department of Energy. ChargePoint America is providing home and public ChargePoint Networked charging stations. Coulomb has worked with its distribution and industry partners to evaluate the demand from the respective geographic regions and allocate charging stations based on this and other factors. The ChargePoint America project is now collecting data characterizing vehicle usage and charging patterns and Idaho National Labs is now analyzing the data.
